Workshop Concert

How is a composition structured? How are certain sound effects created, and what ideas lie behind a piece? In this workshop concert, the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra and General Music Director Mark Rohde take you behind the scenes of Jean Sibelius’s compositional process. The focus: his music for Maurice Maeterlinck’s jealousy drama Pelléas et Mélisande. During the approximately one-hour concert, this work will not only be performed, but individual passages will also be highlighted and brought to life with details about their background. A concert that sparks curiosity about the “how” behind the music—and about the art of composition itself.
