Hummel Oberons Zauberhorn für Klavier und Orchester op. 116
Beethoven Sinfonie Nr. 3 in Es-Dur op. 55

Ludwig van Beethoven saw the overcoming of traditional conditions as the breeding ground for the future. To explore artistic freedom outside of convention became his driving force. His Third Symphony also presented itself as potential music for the future: unusual, revolutionary, complex in its structure - political, ideological and human in its message. This great work is a central contribution to the Beethoven Jubilee 2020.

Unlike Beethoven, who was separated from the concert stage by his ear problems relatively early in his career as a pianist, Johann Nepomuk Hummel remained a celebrated virtuoso until the early 1830s. In November 1829 Hummel completed his piano fantasy "Oberon's Magic Horn". The source of inspiration was undoubtedly Carl Maria von Weber's opera "Oberon", which had been premiered shortly before in Weimar. But here Hummel created a very individual piano work in his own rich compositional fantasy, using isolated thematic fragments from the opera.
