Weinberg Konzert für Violoncello und Orchester
Baratók Musik für Saiteninstrumente, Schlagzeug und Celesta
It was to accompany the Basel Chamber Orchestra on tour as a repertoire piece. In 1936 Béla Bartók delivered a fascinating piece of music to his client; without doubt a milestone in his rich creative output; undoubtedly a key work of the 20th century that has lost none of its timeless radiance to this day. An individual sound language also characterizes the music of Mieczysław Weinberg. It captivates with its dynamic tension, its touching melodic lines and its clear tonality – just like the Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, which the composer dedicated to the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.

The third symphony concert of the season will take place within the context of “Days of New Music” at University of Music Würzburg. The review of the modern concert repertoire will be completed by a contemporary composition to be published in the brochure of the “Days of New Music” in autumn 2020.
